Central retention policies
All companies need a long term email retention capability. Standard email servers do not provide for this and keeping large volumes of email in a live email server reduces its performance - particularly for back-up and recovery purposes. Email retention should not however be the responsibility of end users, as their retention choices will not take into consideration the future needs of the company and multiple end user archives create a fragmented set of records.
Mimecast offers a best practice long term email retention facility which works seamlessly with your existing email infrastructure. Retention policies and storage are managed independently of your primary mail server and independently of end users. End user archives can be imported into Mimecast so that historical emails form part of your managed storage set and end users can continue to have reliable access to their old emails.
Besides emails that are created within your email infrastructure, your website or other business systems may create emails that do not enter your primary mail server. It is important to be able to apply similar retention policies to these emails too, and Mimecast allows you to control how different types of email information is retained and managed regardless of source.
