Product Features
Comprehensive, proactive anti-virus protection
The McAfee anti-virus scan engine stops every type of virus and malicious code threat, including “traditional” viruses, email worms, Internet worms, DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, backdoor and remote access Trojans, and zombies. Using technology that drills down into compressed data, VirusScan is also able to find hidden threats buried in .zip and other compressed file types.
Proactive protection is delivered through advanced heuristics and generic detection, which allow VirusScan to protect—in advance—against new, unseen viruses and other threats.
And with advanced in-memory scanning, VirusScan protects systems from threats such as CodeRed and SQLSlammer, which don’t write their code to disk, by removing the process from memory.
Continuous on-access scanning
Unlike previous on-demand or scheduled scanning approaches, VirusScan for NetApp provides constant scanning in real time, offering protection to users when they are accessing or copying files or when files are being written to the server.
Unwanted program protection
Automatic detection of unwanted programs helps keep users safe from hidden programs that track Internet usage, access personal data such as passwords and account information, or open security holes.
Multiple filer scanning
VirusScan for NetApp includes “multi-to-multi” functionality that allows administrators to create a bank of scanner servers to serve a bank of filers, thereby reducing maintenance costs, increasing load-balancing capacity and performance, and allowing for more-controlled fail-over scenarios.
Centralized management and reporting
VirusScan integrates with McAfee ePolicy Orchestrator—one of the only truly scalable security policy management tools—for policy management, detailed graphical reporting, and software deployment. ePolicy Orchestrator is a centralized authority to enforce protection compliance, providing a single console to manage your McAfee deployments.
Sophisticated automatic updating
McAfee AutoUpdate ensures updates are provided rapidly via http, ftp, UNC share, local, or mapped drives. Updates are only ~100KB, and include small incremental DATs, full DATs, engine updates, extra.DATs, service packs, or hot-fixes. Resumable updating is available for road warriors with slow or unreliable connections.
Notification
The notification options enable you to react instantly to any possible virus outbreak. Any time a virus is detected, regardless of the product configuration, the administrator will receive an alert message. Alert Messages can be sent via e-mail or by utilizing McAfee’s Alert Manager functionality, which allows alerts to be sent via pager, SNMP, SMS and Tivoli.
