Product Features
Unparalleled, proactive antivirus threat protection
The McAfee antivirus scan engine stops every type of virus and malicious code threat, including "traditional" viruses, email worms, Internet worms, DDoS (distributed denial-of-service) attacks, backdoor and remote access Trojans, and zombies. Using technology that drills down into compressed data, GroupShield is also able to find hidden threats buried in .zip and other compressed file types.
Proactive antivirus protection is delivered through advanced heuristics and generic detection, which allow GroupShield to protect - in advance - against new, unseen viruses and other threats.
Advanced content filtering and management
McAfee GroupShield scans emails and the content of more than 300 different attachment types for inappropriate words or phrases. Using true file-type identification and filtering capabilities, GroupShield can search and remove attachments and nested attachments found in many archive or compressed file types, outsmarting the file-blocking evasion techniques used by many of today’s more destructive threats.
Both users and the organization are protected from the effects of inappropriate content with customizable sample rules pre-set to block content such as profanity, racism, bigotry, and more. Content policies can be adapted and applied to different user groups or departments, and can also be localized for global organizations. To further mitigate legal liability, administrators can add message disclaimers to the header or footer of an email message.
Centralized management and reporting
McAfee GroupShield integrates with ePolicy Orchestrator - one of the only truly scalable security policy management tools - for policy management, detailed graphical reporting, and software deployment. ePolicy Orchestrator is a centralized authority to enforce protection, providing a single console to manage both your McAfee GroupShield and McAfee SpamKiller deployments.
Robust spam blocking
The addition of McAfee SpamKiller delivers rules-based, industry-leading anti-spam detection that seamlessly integrates with McAfee GroupShield. Five levels of spam protection deliver up to 95% accuracy, with minimal false positives.
Outbreak response
Using rules defined by the administrator, Outbreak Manager searches for new attacks by looking for activities typical of virus outbreaks. When a virus outbreak is detected, Outbreak Manager can either email the administrator and wait for further instructions, or automatically execute pre-determined tasks to secure the email environment against possible infection, requiring no manual intervention.
eXtended Policy Support
With eXtended Policy Support, administrators can apply content policies on a user or departmental basis; these user group-based policies can be applied as an exception to GroupShield global content scanning policies.
Message discard
McAfee GroupShield sends alert messages whenever a virus is detected in an email message. In the event of a mass-mailer, these useful alert messages can become an annoyance. McAfee GroupShield can handle mass-mailer virus alerts differently and prevent excessive alert messages from being received.
